Let's start from the beginning — what is Ceph?
Ceph is an open-source clustering software based on the principle of scalability. In simplicity, it links multiple storage servers into a single "organism". It's a powerful solution providing object, block, and file storage within one horizontally scalable cluster. It's also designed to avoid having a "SPOF" and thus offer maximum availability. Whether you're a small, medium, or large business, Ceph can meet your demands.
Why even consider Ceph?
Imagine having a storage solution that is fully scalable and can grow with your company without sacrificing performance or data security. Ceph is such a solution. As software-defined storage, Ceph is hardware-independent, allowing you to choose the technology that best suits your needs.
Ceph uses an intelligent algorithm for distributing data among individual storage nodes. This algorithm, CRUSH (Controlled Replication Under Scalable Hashing), is capable of evenly distributing data among available nodes without the need for centralized planning. It's also very flexible in configuration and allows you to set performance and capacity according to the specific needs of your business. This makes it a great choice for those who require different levels of performance for different applications and services.
You've surely encountered it — "That's open-source, it's worth nothing". However, this prejudice couldn't be further from the truth. The fact that it is one of the leading software-defined storage platforms is evidenced by its long-term use by companies such as Google, T-Mobile, Yahoo, Intel, and Blizzard Entertainment.
What all do you need to have/get?
Networking part:
The basis is 10 GbE connectivity, which is used for client connections to the storage. Double the basic connectivity is then used to connect the backend of the cluster and to support replication in write-demanding environments. It is a matter of course to increase connectivity up to 400 GbE.
Monitoring nodes:
Usually, these are three nodes that are used to ensure maximum flexibility and availability of the cluster.
OSD nodes:
Data/objects are stored on Object Storage Daemon nodes. Error tolerance is ensured by data replication and their distribution across OSD nodes, making the backend network of the cluster critical for ensuring data availability and write performance. A typical Ceph deployment creates 3x copies of data objects. This means that if a client writes 1 GB of data, 2 GB of data must move on the backend network.
And then of course the expert deployment as such.
And what's the best part?
We will help you with the whole process from A to Z. From infrastructure design, through the selection and delivery of hardware with NBD warranties, installation, configuration, to after-sales support and maintenance. We also offer financing options and the possibility to place the entire cluster in our TIER III data center. Performance of RedHat Ceph storage on Supermicro servers with third generation AMD EPYC Milan
Enterprise storage infrastructure and related technologies are constantly evolving year after year. Especially at a time when technologies such as IoT, 5G, AI, and ML are rapidly coming to the fore, there is also an increasing demand for Software-Defined Storage (SDS) solutions based on a storage cluster. RedHat Ceph Storage is one of the leading SDS solutions that enables efficient operation of loads that are very performance demanding. High throughput and low latency of modern storages are important factors for the overall performance of the Ceph cluster.
